Respiratory rehabilitation
A supervised training and exercise program designed to help people with chronic (long-term) lung disease
Respiratory rehabilitation (or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease rehabilitation) is a supervised training and exercise program designed to help people with chronic (long-term) lung disease. It won’t cure your lung disease, but you may notice fewer breathing problems, more strength, and an improved quality of life.
Respiratory rehabilitation programs usually meet two or three times a week for 4-12 weeks or more. Some programs offer home-based rehabilitation.
Respiratory rehabilitation is effective if you put in the effort. With the help of respiratory rehabilitation programs, you can learn exercises and breathing techniques during training that will prevent suffocation. Pulmonary rehabilitation gives the best results if you continue to do the exercises and use the skills you have learned after completing the program.
